A Psalm to My Risen King
“Then he said to them, ‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.’ Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.'”
face down I fall before your feet
undeserving of the cup you took for me
burdened to fulfill a promise set in time
you prepared yourself for a willing demise
my heart aches for the ways of betrayal and mockery
knowing no hesitation was thought for me
and in the moment of perhaps the greatest lament
when you felt the Father’s presence completely absent
you, then taking it upon yourself
dived straight to the deepest depth called hell
all so that my feeble ways
could turn and yearn for my Father’s face
I cannot fathom all the cost
you paid as you hung up on that cross
all I know is what my life means now
that you’ve laid down yours so that love could abound
the unchanging truth of an empty grave
has set my heart eternally ablaze
now all my days I’ll shout, I’ll praise
of my Savior, my King, my Saving Grace.
“…for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.”
I pray that the gospel of Jesus affects your heart today. In a day of rememberance, we are brought back to the series of events that no human could comprehend. A Holy God, sent his Son to atone for the chasm of sin that we could not. He bore the cross meant for us and defeated the finality of death in a world destined for it. All for the purpose of reconciling our souls to His.
Praise God for an endless pursuit of his children, not because we are deserving; but, because we are His.
